Genuine vs Equivalent Spares

Genuine when the brand fits the duty and is available. A matched equivalent when a discontinued line, lead time or cost gets in the way. Here's how we decide which to quote.

A genuine spare is manufactured by the original brand - Duncan Engineering, Flowell Valves or Leader Valves - to their own drawing, and is what we supply by default whenever it fits the duty and is in stock or available within your timeframe.

A matched equivalent is a substitute part from a different manufacturer, selected against the same dimensional and performance specification as the original - not simply the nearest catalogue entry. We only offer an equivalent when the genuine part is discontinued, its lead time doesn't fit your schedule, or cost rules it out for the application, and every supplier we source an equivalent from is itself ISO 9001 certified.

Frequently asked

Will you substitute an equivalent without telling me?

No - which part you receive, genuine or equivalent, is always stated on the quote before you order. Genuine is the default whenever it is available and fits the duty.

When do you recommend an equivalent instead of genuine?

When the genuine part is discontinued, its lead time does not fit your schedule, or its cost does not suit the application - in each case we match against the original's dimensional and performance specification, not just the nearest catalogue listing.

Is an equivalent part lower quality than genuine?

Not by our standard - every equivalent we supply comes from an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer and is matched against the original's specification before we offer it. It is a substitute chosen for the duty, not a downgrade.

Can you match a part from an old nameplate or drawing, even without a part number?

Yes - send a photo of the nameplate or the drawing you have and we will identify the part and quote against it, genuine or equivalent as availability requires.
